Can Kidney Cyst Lead to Cancer

Q: I have 3 cysts on my kidneys. Can my kidney cysts cause kidney cancer?
A: kidney cysts can be caused by Polycystic Kidney Disease or simple kidney cyst or complex kidney cyst. In most cases, the kidney cyst will not be a direct cause of kidney cancer. However, you may get the exact answer, after your doctor gets your detailed medical condition. You can send your condition to kidneyask@hotmail.com for a personal reply.

The physician needs to accurately distinguish simple renal cysts from complex renal cysts. Simple cysts are round and have one wall, much like a ping pong ball. They rarely require treatment. Complex cysts have walls within the outer wall or are a collection of small cysts. The latter can harbor cancerous masses.
Bosniak uses a complicated algorithm of CT scan characteristics such as size, density and perfusion to place cystic renal masses into one of five different categories. Bosniak categories I and II are generally simple cysts and do not require further evaluation. Some would repeat an ultrasound at six to 12 months to assure stability and a correct diagnosis.
Maybe you have interest to read: Will Polycystic Kidney Disease Reduce Cancer
Many recommend that all Bosniak category III lesions undergo surgical removal and evaluation, as 40 percent to 50 percent will be cancer. With this approach, there is still a significant number of unnecessary surgeries. Some recommend close follow-up with magnetic resonance imaging to avoid this. Magnetic resonance imaging is especially useful for characterizing the inside of a cyst that is indeterminate after ultrasound and CT. Serial MRI examinations at three, six and 12 months are warranted in some patients.
As mentioned above, there is no proof to certify that kidney cysts can induce kidney cancer. But, you are suggested to have a talk with your doctor based on your own conditions.

FAQs about High Creatinine Level

High creatinine level usually indicates kidney damage. Read on and find the high creatinine levels.

High Creatinine Levels Causes
Creatinine is a chemical waste molecule which is produced from muscle metabolism. Any condition that destabilizes normal functioning of the kidneys is likely to result in increased creatinine level in the blood. It is critical for patients to recognize whether the factors resulting in kidney dysfunction azotemia or kidney failure is longstanding or recent.

Why My doctor requires me to take the test of creatinine level?
Doctors measuring creatinine levels for several reasons. These tests can be used to monitor certain kidney diseases and to make sure the medications for those conditions are working properly. High creatinine levels also can indicate how severe kidney diseases are. Dehydration can also cause high creatinine levels and a physician may use the test to determine if a patient is indeed dehydrated.

How to prepare for creatinine level test?
The serum creatinine test is a common blood test. If your blood sample is being tested only for creatinine, you can eat and drink normally before the test. If your blood sample will be used for additional tests, you may need to fast for a certain amount of time before the test. Your doctor will give you specific instructions.

What you can expect from Creatinine Test?
During the serum creatinine test, a member of your health care team simply takes a sample of blood by inserting a needle into a vein in your arm. The blood sample is sent to a lab for analysis. You can return to your usual activities immediately.

Can Polycystic Kidneys Develops Complex Cysts

Q: My friend has recently been found to have Polycysitc Kidney Disease. He is 23 years old. Both his mother and his elder brother also have it. What I really want to know can Polycystic Kidneys develop complex cysts? He kept MRI at a regular basis, which measured 5cm cyst and 3.7cm cyst in the kidneys. His doctor said he also developed complex cyst. Is it possible? But, his doctor said not to worry about it, only repeated MRI is necessary. Is there any choices for the management in complex cysts and polycystic kidney disease? I really want to some to help him deal with this. Thanks.

A: thanks for reading my blog and leave a message to me. It is possible for patients with PKD to be affected with complex cysts. As long as a person is diagnosed with PKD, only waiting and follow up with repeated MRI is not enough to control its development.

If your friend does nothing helpful to reduce the progression of Kidney Damage or enlargement of Kidney Cysts, his PKD may develop into Kidney Failure or even End Stage Renal Disease eventually.

As you mentioned his larger cysts are already about 5cm and 3.7cm, the cysts are large enough to cause kidney infections and damages. I am unable to tell the detailed suggestions for your friend, for I didn’t get his medical report from you. (see my contact email: kidneyask@hotmail.com).

But, anyway, it is necessary for your friend to take treatments which can help shrink the kidney cysts as soon as possible. To achieve this goal, maybe both surgery and natural specific herbs are suggested. See how to get the recommended herbs and surgeries list.

What Are the Suggested Medicine for My Insomnia with Kidney Failure

Q: I had Kidney Failure for 1.5 years. What made me upset is my sleep problem. In some night, I even cannot have a good rest for 1 hour. I try to use sleep pills, but I am afraid whether it is okay for my kidneys. Can you tell me how manage insomnia with Kidney Failure?

A: I saw your note on line about using sleeping pills for those with kidney failure. My nephrologist says it is not a good idea. I use 5-HTP which you can get at Walmart or Organic Whole Food stores, other drug stores too. 5-HTP is a natural substance that the body usually converts to Serotonin and then to Melatonin. When we eat turkey at Thanksgiving, etc, we tend to sleep very well that night. The reason is it is full of Tryptophan. Tryptophan is converted into 40 different things in our body, one of which is 5-HTP and the only thing 5-HTP is converted to is as stated above. Serotonin helps us be calm and Melatonin is the last of the changes which help us to sleep.

100 mg of 5-HTP taken at dinner time will make a huge change in how you sleep in a natural way that does not harm your kidneys. It does come in 50 mg as well. My education as an HHP (Holistic Health Practitioner) is that it is not recommended to take over 150mg. I hope this helps you to sleep. It does it for me. I have been on home hemo for 2.5 years.

If you need more info about 5-HTP, please email to kidneyask@hotmail.com and also I happen to find some herbs which can deal with sleep problem naturally in Kidney Disease patients.

Creatinine is the break-down product of muscular activity, which can be filtered out when kidneys are healthy. When kidneys are damaged, the filtering ability will decline. As a result, creatinine will build up in blood, causing high creatinine levels.
Usually, there is an elevation of creatinine level, it means at least 50% of kidney function has gone away in most cases. According to the kidney damage conditions and GFR levels, kidney damage is divided into 5 stages, we call them CKD Stages.
Creatinine level 2.3 is usually associated with CKD stage 3 which means a moderate decrease in the kidney functions. In stage 3, the individual is more likely to develop complications, such as Anemia, Bone Disease and High Blood Pressure etc.
Without a good control, CKD stage 3 may develop into Stage 4 or even end stage CKD stage 5, when your doctor may suggested Dialysis or Kidney Transplant.

Many patients go on low-protein diets to slow down the progression of kidney disease and minimize symptoms of having nitrogenous wastes in the blood.
- Low Sodium Diet
We need sodium, but most of us consume far more than we need. Avoid foods with added salt, including nuts, bacon, pickles, olives, sauerkraut and luncheon meats.
There are the common guidelines for high creatinine levels. However, each person requires a personal diet. If you need the personal foods list, please leave a message below or email to kidneyask@hotmail.com. I am glad to share it with anyone who needs it.

High creatinine level can be caused by many factors.usually, if it lasts permanently, it may indicate dangerous conditions. here, you can get the details: High Creatinine Level Causes and Meanings
High creatine levels can be a sign that your kidneys are not functioning properly. It could also be a sign of damaged muscle tissue.
In addition, high creatinine level can cause abnormal heart rhythms. It can also be associated with kidney problems. It can be just as dangerous as having low creatinine levels, which is why before many procedures and prescriptions now it required that you have your creatinine levels tested.
What’s your creatinine level? Share it with me and I am glad to offer more detailed suggestions. Contact Email: kidneyask@hotmail.com or Leave a Message Below.

What Does Low GFR and High Creatinine Level Mean

Q: I had my latest blood test last month and it said GFR was 45ml/min and creatinine is 1.5mg/dl. I found many materials about GFR and creatinine which were mostly associated with kidneys. Does low GFR and high creatinine level mean Kidney Disease?

A: thanks for using our web--kidneyservicechina.com. Based on your description, your GFR is really low. The normal range of GFR should >90ml/min. And the creatinine normal range is 0.6~1.2mg/dl.

You are right. Both GFR and creatinine can indicate the condition of your kidneys. GFR, means glomerular filtration rate, which measures how well your kidneys work. GFR 45ml/min means about half kidney function declines. Thereby, you are suggested to take other tests to make the final diagnosis. Because I have no your medical report in hand, I cannot give you the test list based on your condition. If you don’t mind, you can send your medical report to kidneyask@hotmail.com and I will find the test list for you as soon as possible.
Creatinine is the byproduct of muscle activity which should be filtered out by kidneys in normal conditions. This is why High Creatinine Level is the sign of kidney damage.
However, creatinine cannot sets out the sign immediate, once the kidneys are damaged in some cases. In most cases, creatinine level increasing means there are at least 50% kidney function has lost already.
From your case, your creatinine is not as high as it should be, considering your 45% kidney function left. It usually means a good news that your kidney damage may be less than it should be.
You are suggested to take tests and get the final diagnosis as soon as possible. For more information, you can leave a message below. Wish you a good day!
